My Morning Routine

Structuring my own morning routine at first felt difficult and I looked to other people’s routines to really begin to get an idea of how I wanted to structure mine. For this reason, I thought it might be helpful if I shared mine!

The Night Before

7:30PM : Begins night routine

8:30PM-9:00PM: Bed time!

Wake Up Time

6:00AM: I wake up with a sunrise simulation alarm clock which I swear by for a gentle wake-up!

6:10AM: Get out of bed, get my work out clothes on, and head out the door.

6:15AM: Depending on the day, I have different work outs I do. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturdays are running mornings and Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are walking mornings. Each day I do 2.5 miles whether it’s a walk or run. On days when going outside isn’t possible, I wake up with a 30 minute hatha yoga session with the app DownDog. (Highly recommend this app!)

7:00AM: Feed my rabbits and chinchillas as I cool down.

7:10AM: I refresh up from my workout. I take a quick shower (cleaning off my body) if I need to freshen up from a run. I then focus on quick skincare which includes cleansing my face, toner to help my pores, ice rolling my face to make me look and feel more energized, moisturizer, and a sunscreen.

Me Time

7:30AM: 10 minute meditation. If your someone who feels they cannot do meditation and the sitting in silence, I highly recommend trying meditation out while listening to trance music (especially if you’re ADHD) or other sounds like rainfall or healing sound bowls. This is how I began my meditation journey. Believe it or not, but when I first began trying to meditate with my psychiatrist, less than 30 minutes of silence would make me break out into panic attacks. I have come a long way and you can too!

7:45AM: Make a cup of iced coffee and take it to my desk.

7:50AM: Set up my light therapy lamp and turn it on while I journal and read. Start journaling. Personally, I journal these things:

  • A quote that embraces my current situation or goals - sometimes this doesn’t change for weeks or months

  • An intention for the day - sometimes this stays the same also for weeks for months, until I feel like I need something new and fresh to live by

  • Affirmations - also stay the same for periods of time depending on the words and phrases and lessons I feel I want to embrace for different periods of time

  • 3 things I’m grateful for that morning

  • 5 goals I have - these can be short-term or long-term and sometimes stay the same for long periods of time

  • Self-care habits - I have a list of habits I write in my journal every day to help me remember to do them, the next day I check off the ones that I did in my journal

  • Dreams and goal habits - a list of habits that will move me towards my dreams and goals that I write in my journal every day and then check off the ones I did the next day when journaling

  • 10 minutes of free journaling

8:15AM: 15 minutes of reading a finance book - finance books are not something I enjoy reading but taking 15 minutes every day has taught me so much about personal finance, saving, getting out of debt, investing, and more.

Business Time

8:30AM: 20 minutes of blogging on Courageous Dissociation - I always work on writing during this time, not the other aspects of having a website or business.

Personal Time

8:50AM: I update my Notion. (Notion is a productivity tool that I suggest to everyone because it has so many versatile ways to use it and has something for everyone.)

9:00AM: If I’m working, I already have a template of things that I do each day for work that I work from. If I’m home for the day, I have templates in Notion that outline what I need to do for the day. I update these if needed and get started on my day!

Overall

If I’m perfectly honest, I have a very full morning routine and I’m able to get so much out of my morning routine because I’m a single woman with no children. Although I hope my morning routine is helpful for anyone looking for ideas, know that it’s perfectly normal to only have 30 minutes to yourself while getting ready in the morning and your morning routine might look vastly different from mine!

The important thing is that you have a set structure and plan for your mornings that will help set you up for success and begin your day on the right foot.
